Logitech Drivers
Logitech is a manufacturer of a variety of computer devices and peripherals. They are best known for their mice, trackballs, and keyboards. However, Logitech also makes webcams, speakers, headphones, MP3 players, microphones, USB hubs, keypads, and other products.
It's hard to imagine a world without Logitech products as these products continue to dominate the industry. In fact, over 700 million Logitech mice have been manufactured since the company's founding. Logitech began in 1981in a small village in Switzerland. At the time, computers had just begun to include a mouse as a way of interacting with the graphical user interface.
In 1982, Logitech opened a U.S. office in Palo Alto, California. This same year, Logitech introduced its first computer mouse, the P-4. Two years later, the world's first cordless mouse was created. Innovations continued such as mice designed to accommodate the curve of the user's hand and trackballs. Logitech quickly became the world leader in computer mice. Today's Logitech mouse is a far cry from the earlier models with innovations keeping pace with the changing needs of computer users.
Fierce competition erupted in the mouse manufacturing business prompting Logitech to consolidate manufacturing in China and broaden their product mix. While the company started out specializing in computer mice they needed to expand their reach in order to remain strong. While many Logitech products now exist, the primary focus is on "interface" devices. Logitech's product categories include:
- Navigation
- Internet communications
- Gaming
- Digital music
- Home entertainment control
Gaming devices such as joysticks and steering wheels soon moved from PC gaming to console gaming. Logitech began making these peripherals for gaming consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation.
Logitech is a publicly traded company traded on the SWX Swiss Exchange and the NASDAQ Global Select Market. Logitech's sales for the fiscal year 2008 which ended March 31, 2008 were reported at $2.4 billion. This number represents a 15% increase over the prior year's sales.
Among the company's recent innovations is a wireless stereo headset designed for making phone calls over the Internet. As VoIP continues to become more popular, the need for comfort and convenience grows. Logitech recognized the flaws of corded headsets and poorly designed wireless headsets; they set out to make a wireless headset that offers excellent audio quality and comfort. The Logitech ClearChat PC Wireless Headset is the result. Users can chat on the phone at distances of up to 33 feet without having to install software. A USB transmitter connects to the PC allowing for wireless communications. This is just one example of hundreds of new Logitech products released each year.
With over 25 years of innovation and continued growth, Logitech remains a dominant force.
