Intel Drivers

download drivers Is Intel inside your computer? Intel has been powering the electronics industry in one form or another since its founding in 1968 by Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore. Initially, they named the company NM Electronics but soon adopted the name Intel.

Within the first year, Intel launched its first products including the 3101 Schottky bipolar random access memory and the world's first metal oxide semiconductor static RAM known as the 1101. Soon, silicon chips became all the rage with Intel leading the way. Integrated electronics, erasable ROM, global factories, expanding product lines, high level language developments for microprocessors, "bunny suits," the Intel 8080 microprocessor, incorporation into one of the first PCs, and the development of "bubble memory" are just a few of the highlights of Intel's accomplishments in its first ten years.

By 1980, Intel, now on the Fortune 500 list, joined with DEC and Xerox on the cooperative Ethernet project. Local Area Networking had been born! Shortly thereafter, Intel landed the lucrative IBM PC account just as the PC began to take off. The famous 286 chip was soon built into many personal computers. Further innovations offered higher performance microprocessors with lower power requirements. The second decade of Intel saw the introduction of the 386 processor and Intel's entry into the flash memory market.

In the 1990s, "Intel Inside" became a familiar logo. Shortly afterward, Intel officially became the world's largest supplier of semiconductors. The 486 processor was introduced in the early part of the decade only to be outdone by the arrival of the Pentium in 1993. The Pentium was five times faster than the 486. In 1994, LANDesk Network Management software was introduced allowing systems managers a streamlined approach to manage their computer networks. By 1997, Pentium II emerged.

The following decade saw the arrival of the Celeron processor, Pentium III, Pentium 4, wireless technology, hyper-threading technology, Itanium, Xeon, Centrino, Viiv, and Core 2 Duo processors. In addition, the 40th anniversary of Moore's Law was marked in 2005. Moore's Law states that the number of transistors in a chip will double every two years.

2006 saw the introduction of Intel's new marketing strategy and logo. "Leap ahead" sums up Intel's plans for the future. Ever shrinking processors with performance leaps every two years continues to be a driving success factor for this powerful company.

Today, Intel is inside personal computers, laptops, servers, workstations, and even Macintosh computers. Intel offers several families of processors for desktops and notebooks (Core, Pentium, Celeron) and servers and workstations. In addition, embedded and communications processors by Intel include Control Plane processors, Architecture processors, Network processors, and I/O processors.

Other Intel products include motherboards, chipsets, adapters, software, graphics, flash memory, RAID controllers, storage systems, and TV tuners. Even if you don't have an Intel processor powering your computer, you could very well have "Intel Inside."
