HP Drivers
HP, or Hewlett Packard, is a major computer manufacturer that makes printers, ink, computers, gaming systems, calculators, scanners, fax machines, and other computer devices. You've heard of many technology companies that started in garages, right? HP was one of the original garage start ups. The company was founded in 1939 by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard. They built their first product, an audio oscillator, in a Palo Alto garage.
HP got off to a tremendous start with one of their first customers being none other than Walt Disney Studios. Eight of their audio oscillators where used for developing and testing a new sound system for the classic Disney movie Fantasia. In addition to being technical innovators, Hewlett and Packard became management innovators. Their management style, later called "management by objective," involved walking around, listening to employees, communicating overall objectives, and giving employees the tools to accomplish those objectives. They also implemented an open door policy with open cubicles and doorless executive offices, provided catastrophic medical insurance, encouraged the use of first names rather than titles, and threw company parties and picnics regularly. All of these cutting edge management innovations took place over six decades ago. HP built their first computer in 1966 and continued to be an innovator in electronics throughout the decades with products such as the first handheld scientific calculator. The famous HP Laserjet printer line was launched in 1984 and remains HP's most successful product line yet. By 2006, over 100 million LaserJet printers were produced. HP's history is long, spanning over seven decades with innovative products and management practices. Today, HP is one of the largest IT companies in the world. In 2007, HP generated over $100 billion in revenue. HP serves consumers, small and medium businesses, large enterprise businesses, graphic artists, and government, health and education organizations. Each of these categories has specific product needs. For example, consumers flock to HP for personal computers, digital cameras, mobile devices, printers, and ink while larger organizations require networking, servers, workstations, storage, video collaboration, and a full range of IT services. Graphic artists, architects, and engineers also rely on HP for large format printers and CAD software. HP printers are by far HP's most popular products. HP printers are found everywhere from home offices to government buildings. Among the printing products currently available are printers designed for everyday use such as all-in-one printers, color inkjet printers, and photo printers, printers designed for mobile use with Bluetooth and wireless connections, and professional imaging solutions for professional photos and graphics in numerous sizes. Printers require print drivers in order to communicate properly with the computer. These device drivers come on a CD-ROM when the printer is originally purchased. However, these drivers are also available for download on the HP Web site should they be required. Ink and toner are consumables that must be replaced regularly and can add to the overall cost of the printer throughout its life. HP has implemented a rewards program offering savings on ink. In addition, many stores accept used HP ink cartridges for recycling and offer a few dollars off future purchases.
