Broadcom Drivers

download drivers In 1991, Henry T. Nicholas III, Ph.D. and Henry Samueli, Ph.D had a high speed vision involving broadband communications – and Broadband Telecom was born. Their impressive background included military communications IC experience, academic research, and commercial telecommunications experience. These two visionaries worked together at TRW in the early 1980s before going on separate courses for a while. By 1988, they paired up again when Nicholas convinced Samueli (who was Nicolas's first Ph.D candidate) to join him at another company, PairGain Technologies. A few years later, each man contributed $5000 toward the founding of Broadcom.

Broadcom's first customer was TRW who purchased a digital frequency synthesizer. In its first year, Broadcom made $44,000. The following year, revenue jumped to $221,000 followed by over $1 million in the company's third year. The company continued growing and evolving with a name change to Broadcom taking place in 1994.

By the year 2000, Broadcom's ranks had swollen to nearly 2400 employees and earnings in excess of $1 billion. By this time, Broadband had 21 U.S patents. This same year, Broadband joined the S&P 500. Seven years later, revenue exceeded $3.7 billion and the number of U.S. Patents held increased to 2000 – a huge increase from just 21 patents a few years earlier.

What exactly does Broadcom make? Semiconductors for wired and wireless communications. Broadcom chips and technologies allow for broadband delivery of data, voice, video, and multimedia across home, office, and mobile networks. Products fall under categories such as: wireless LAN, VoIP, Bluetooth, cable, satellite, cellular, consumer electronics, small-medium business, data-telecom networks, enterprise networking, DSL, GPS, and mobile multimedia.

Broadcom continues to be at the forefront of technology with products such as processors capable of delivering high definition content to mobile phones. As if that weren't impressive on its own, these processors are also capable of recording HD video on mobile devices. Imagine a cell phone that doubles as an HD camcorder.

Many consumers aren't familiar with Broadcom products because much of what Broadcom makes is contained inside other manufacturers' products such as satellite and cable set top boxes, cable modems, residential broadband gateways, GPS units, and Wi-Fi phones. Manufacturers that use Broadcom technology and products include Apple, Dell, Cisco, Echostar, HP, Motorola, IBM, Nortel, 3Com, and many more.

Broadcom's mission is simple: "Connecting Everything."
